Privacy Policy
Effective Date: Jun 20, 2026
At Akad, we understand the importance of protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy outlines how we collect, use, and safeguard your personal information when you use our wedding planning services. By using the Akad app, you agree to the terms of this Privacy Policy.
1. Information We Collect
1.1 Personal Information
- Contact Information: Your name, email address, phone number, and address.
- Profile Information: Details about your wedding, including dates, locations, preferences, and guest lists.
- Financial Information: Wedding budget and expense figures you enter to plan and track your spending. The Akad app does not collect or store payment card details.
- Social Media Data: If you choose to connect your social media accounts, we may collect profile information and other public data from those platforms.
1.2 Usage Data
- Device Information: IP address, browser type, operating system, and device identifiers.
- Usage Patterns: Pages and screens viewed, time spent in the app, features used, and crash and diagnostic data that helps us fix problems.
1.3 Cookies and Tracking Technologies
We and our analytics providers use cookies and similar technologies to operate the app and website, remember your preferences, and understand usage. On our website we use PostHog for product analytics; in the mobile app we use Google Firebase Analytics. On iOS, behavioural tracking is only enabled if you allow it through Apple's App Tracking Transparency prompt. You can control cookies through your browser settings.
1.4 Information About Other People
Our services let you add information about other people — for example, your guests' names and phone numbers (including contacts you choose to import from your device) and details about vendors you save. You are responsible for ensuring you have the right to share this information with us and for telling those people how it will be used. We store it only to provide the planning, guest-list, and RSVP features, and you can delete it at any time.
2. How We Use Your Information
2.1 To Provide Our Services
- Facilitate your wedding planning process, including managing guest lists, sending invitations, and tracking RSVPs.
- Offer personalized recommendations based on your preferences.
- Communicate with you about your account, upcoming events, and updates.
2.2 To Improve Our Services
- Understand how users interact with the Akad app and identify areas for improvement.
- Develop new features and services that enhance the user experience.
2.3 Marketing and Promotions
With your consent, we may send you marketing communications about special offers, new features, or partner services. You can opt-out of these communications at any time.
2.4 Legal Compliance and Security
- Comply with legal obligations and respond to lawful requests from government authorities.
- Protect the security and integrity of our app, including detecting and preventing fraud.
3. How We Share Your Information
3.1 Service Providers
We share information with third-party service providers who help us operate Akad and who are contractually required to protect it and use it only as we instruct. These currently include Google (Firebase authentication, database, storage, analytics, crash reporting, and push notifications, with analytics data exported to Google BigQuery), Resend (email delivery for our newsletter and contact form), and PostHog (website analytics). We do not sell your personal data.
3.2 Business Transfers
In the event of a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your personal information may be transferred to the new owners as part of the transaction.
3.3 Legal Requirements
We may disclose your information if required to do so by law or in response to valid requests by public authorities.
3.4 Vendor Enquiries
When you enquire with a vendor through Akad's in-app messaging, we do not share your name, phone number, or email with that vendor — they receive your message and high-level wedding details (such as date and budget range), but not your contact information or identity. If you instead choose to contact a vendor directly through WhatsApp (a fallback option), you message them from your own WhatsApp account, and any details you include are shared by you, directly with that vendor.
4. Your Rights and Choices
4.1 Access and Correction
You have the right to access and update your personal information through your account settings. If you need further assistance, please contact us.
4.2 Data Retention
We retain your personal information for as long as necessary to fulfill the purposes outlined in this Privacy Policy unless a longer retention period is required by law.
4.3 Deletion
You may request the deletion of your account and personal information by contacting us. Please note that certain information may be retained for legal or operational reasons.
4.4 Marketing Preferences
You can manage your communication preferences and opt-out of marketing emails by following the unsubscribe instructions in the emails we send.
5. Data Security
We implement appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect your personal information from unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration, or destruction. However, no method of transmission over the internet or electronic storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
6. International Data Transfers
Akad is operated from Malaysia and is subject to the Malaysian Personal Data Protection Act 2010 (PDPA). Some of our service providers (such as Google, Resend, and PostHog) process data on servers outside Malaysia. Where your information is transferred abroad, we take reasonable steps to ensure it remains protected in accordance with this Privacy Policy.
7. Children's Privacy
The Akad app is not intended for use by individuals under the age of 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If we become aware that we have inadvertently collected information from a child, we will take steps to delete it.
8. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or legal requirements. We will notify you of any significant changes by posting the updated policy on this page and indicating the "Effective Date" at the top.
